With
the election upon us, SHRM has been involved all year in
helping promote "get out and vote" activities.
The SHRM gov't affairs office created this powerpoint highlighting
the important issues facing HR between now and year end,
as well as the look ahead to key issues for HR in 2009.
No matter how you slice it, the HR environment continues
to be affected and influenced by the important decisions.
Take a look!
If you have not seen the SHRM commercials that have been
running throughout the campaign season, take a look at

HRACI
has some exciting initiatives in the works
for the rest of 2008 into 2009. This month
starts our renewal drive for 2009. Remember,
your renewal is only $90 for a year full
of exciting programs and opportunities in
2009. We will have one drawing at the December
11th annual holiday program for those who
have renewed through December 8th. Two additional
drawings will be held at the January program
for those who renew by December 31st. The
prizes will be one free luncheon meeting – a
$25 value (1/2 day programs excluded), an
HRACI shirt and a $25 gas card. Be sure to
get your renewal in before the end of the
year to qualify for these drawings!
Along with renewals, beginning in October, 2008 we will
be giving incentives to HRACI members who refer others
who join HRACI. For your first referral you will immediately
receive a $10 Starbucks card. Referrals will be tracked
through December of 2009 and a monetary reward will be
given at the end of the year for your total referrals.
The reward increases in value for each referral you get.
Your second referral will be $15, the third $25, the fourth
$35 and the fifth will receive a $50 gift card. Any referrals
beyond 5 will be rewarded with an additional $5 for each
referral. So someone who refers 5 members to join HRACI
could come away with a total of $125. These will be American
Express cards so you can use them anywhere or even deposit
them into your own bank. We hope everyone will be motivated
to share with non-members the benefits that HRACI offers.
And be sure the joining members note your name as the referrer
on their membership application.
How long have you been a member of HRACI? We value your
commitment to this organization and would like to recognize
those individuals who have been members of HRACI for 5
years or more. Watch for more details in the coming months.

Maximizing
Your Learning Investment
Andrea Moore, CPLP, Sr. Consultant, FlashPoint
Session Overview
Traditionally, when providing learning and development
to employees, organizations have invested the greatest amount
of money and energy into the learning event itself. While
the learning event is an important part of the development
process, it is also critical to focus on preparing for the
learning event and to provide follow-up in order to support
learning after the event has occurred.
In
this session we will discuss ways in which learning professionals
can maximize their learning investments through improved
preparation and follow-up. After an interactive overview,
three panel participants will share specifics about learning
engagements in their organizations and what they did
to support success of the initiatives.
Session Facilitator and Panel Moderator
Andrea Moore, CPLP, CEC, Senior Consultant, FlashPoint
amoore@FlashPointHR.com
Andrea
Moore has extensive experience as a human resource professional,
focusing on the growth and development of individuals,
work teams, and leaders. She began her career as a generalist
and moved into the learning and performance-improvement
function, managing a global team for an electronics distribution
organization before joining FlashPoint. Her passion is
supporting people and organizations to help them overcome
challenges and accomplish their goals. Andrea has a master
of science degree in human resource development and a
bachelor of arts degree n psychology, both from Indiana
State University. She was a pilot participant in the
Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP)
program through the American Society for Training and
Development. She is a Certified Empowerment Coach (CEC)
through iPEC and is also certified in the facilitation
of Franklin Covey's signature program “The Seven
Habits of Highly Effective People,” in the facilitation
of change-management programs through Price Pritchett,
and in leadership development through Achieve Global.
Andrea is the president-elect of CIASTD. She serves on
the human resource development advisory board for the
Indiana State University College of Technology, is the
